Switching off the Self

Apparently, when working on complex tasks the part of our brain responsible for emotions, sense of self and introspection shuts down. I think the author errs when describing the resulting state as 'robotic.' Flow, as Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi writes about it, is a task based mental state which is anything but robotic – and yet that dissolution of self is central to the state.
